About The Owner & His Qualifications
John G. Adams is the owner of Modern Design Aquascaping, and continues a tradition of excellence in design and construction since starting his original company, Modern Design Landscaping. He has been studying pond construction and installing water features across the United States since 1993 and his business growth has been a direct result of his artistic ability and his incentive to stay on the leading edge of the industry through continued education.
In addition to building, maintaining, and repairing hundreds of water features, John’s qualifications include being a Certified Aquascape Contractor since 2004. To maintain this certification requires that he attend training events and advanced construction projects annually. John’s completed projects include ponds, pond-less waterfalls, and advanced rain water harvesting systems. This certification has also allowed him the opportunity to be a member of the Pond Guys Peer Group. Only fifteen of Aquascape’s fifty thousand customers world-wide have joined this invitation-only group that studies best practices, construction techniques, product testing and business development. John has been a member of the Peer Group since 2006.
John’s work has been featured on the TV show Style, where they did a before-and-after segment highlighting one of his water feature projects. His water feature won first place at the Dogwood Arts Festival “House & Garden Show” in 2006. Three commercial locations in Blount County have received beautification awards after installing one of John’s signature projects. John’s work has also been featured in HGTV magazine, CityView Magazine, Pond Keeper Magazine, and Water Shapes Magazine. He has educated thousands of home owners and contractors through his seminars and training events.
Further validation of John’s construction expertise comes from his invitations to assist in large-scale commercial projects. Aquascape Inc. invited John to help with the construction of their million dollar display pond at their world headquarters in Illinois. John was also one of the few contractors called upon by Smith Turf and Irrigation to construct the waterfalls at the entrance to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, which was a three hundred and twenty five thousand dollar feature. John’s waterfall work can be seen locally at Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson, Popes Garden Center, Creekside Nursery, The Summit at Bluff Mountain, Treetop Resort, Smith’s Mortuary, and the beautiful lagoon in Maryville’s Camden Court, which also serves to naturally filter the subdivision’s runoff. All of these projects are larger scale, commercial projects, but the majority of John’s projects are tucked into the backyards of happy pond owners around the greater Knoxville area!
