If you're like most Americans, you've probably been thinking about making some resolutions for the new year. While many resolutions are focused on health and home organization goals--like losing weight and getting organized, January is lovely time to also make some positive resolutions for your pond. Modern Design Aquascaping has gathered some ideas help you get more from your natural pond in 2018!

Once spring comes, give your pond a fresh start.

We know it's a little hard to imagine spring when we're still in the midst of cold winter, but some of the best new year's resolutions involve planning ahead. Once the ice starts to thaw this spring, you'll need to assess your need for a complete cleaning. Of course, if you didn’t clear the debris in the autumn months, you’ll more than likely need to thoroughly clean it out. It's your choice whether you DIY or hire a professional like Modern Design Aquascaping to handle it for you. Should you luck out and not require much cleaning, you'll need to plan the appropriate water treatments as the weather continues to warm. Not sure what you need? Give us a call to help.

Commit to learning more about your pond’
s ecosystem.
Pond owners with a solid understanding of their water features can get more from their pool because they have a knowledge base which allows them to make smart choices for their pond. They can also better appreciate the fruits of their labor as they observe the way each pond component affects the other. On our website, we offer a rather extensive frequently asked questions section for your learning pleasure.

Pay more attention to your fish.

The new year is a nice time to revisit the basics of fish health care. If your aquatic friends have babies, you might want to thin out your group to avoid a crowded living space. Learn more about your beautiful pond fish to help them thrive in 2018. While you're at it, take time out to simply enjoy your pond and aquatic life each day. Let the beauty and nature melt some stress away as you observe your pond this year.

Add some new elements to your pond.

Could your pond use more plants around the edges for a prettier transition into the rest of your landscape? Or perhaps it could use a new waterlily or fish if your pond has the space. You might find your pond improved with the addition of a new bridge or a change to the sound of your waterfall. A thoughtful, new element can help refresh your entire water feature more than you realize!
